A Study to Assess the Knowledge regarding prevention of Road Traffic Accident among Students Studying in Higher Secondary Schools of Patan City in Gujarat State

ABSTRACT:

Objective: To assess the knowledge regarding prevention of road traffic accident among student studying in higher secondary schools of patan city in Gujarat state. Method: Descriptive research approach is used in the study. Research design selected for the study was written survey research design, research study was conducted in Higher secondary schools students in Patan city. Conducted pilot study by investigators before going to final study in pilot study 6 sample were selected by survey method for data collection were structured knowledge questionnaire content validation of the tool was done by experts then actual tool is implemented for the study. Result: The mean knowledge scores obtained by the samples is 46.78, mean percentage is 77.97% and standard deviation is 2.29.

 

 

 

INTRODUCTION:

Road traffic accident is therefore an issue of great international concern as it has emerged as the single greatest source of death all over the world. It has been shown, for instance, that accidents in developing countries costal most one percent of these countries Annual Gross National Product utilizing scarce financial resources they can ill-afford to lose. (Akpoghomeh,1998)

 

Road traffic accidents is the leading cause of death by injury and the tenth-leading cause of all deaths globally which now make up a surprisingly significant portion of the world wide burden of ill-health. (Dinesh Mohan, 2002)

 

India has the second largest road network in the world with over 5.5 million kilometers. The proper movements of people and goods on different kind of roads are known as traffic management. So, need for traffic regulations and enforcement is essential through out the world and it is an important part of traffic management. Ironically, this sector is also the most unsafe, responsible for deaths and injuries of millions of people, especially the young working population through out the world. ‘Road travel brings society benefits, but the price society is paying for it is very high’ (WHO, 2013)

 

OBJECTIVE:

To assess the knowledge regarding prevention of road traffic accident among students studying in higher secondary schools of patan city in Gujarat state.

 

ASSUMPTIONS:

Students may have knowledge regarding prevention of road traffic accident among students studying in higher secondary schools of patan city in Gujarat state.

 

MATERIAL AND METHODS:

Descriptive research approach is used in the study. Research design selected for the study was written survey research design, research study was conducted in Higher secondary schools students in Patan city. MAJOR FINDING:

1.Personal data of sample

1    Majority of the samples for the study were in the age groups of 16 to 20 years.

2    Majority of the education was higher secondary education (100%).

3    Majority of the students sample for the study male students (56.66%).

4    Majority of the arts stream students (93.33%).

5    Majority of the gujarati medium students (100%).

6 Majority of the sources of information about prevention of road traffic accident in news paper (68.33%).

 

2.Knowledge of the samples regarding Road traffic accident.

The mean score of the samples was 46.78 and mean percentage 77.97% and standar deviation 2.29.

 

CONCLUSION:

From all the above findings, it can be concluded that the samples had good knowledge regarding prevention of road traffic accident.
